Classroom Rules
Classroom Rules |
All students are expected to come to class with the materials needed to be succesful and engaged in the lesson for the day. On most days, this will include paper, pencil, pen, and any homework that should be turned in that day. The following information is from a handout that is given to students the first week of school.
Class ProceduresCorning Union High School Mission: CUHSD seeks to advance and support student achievement in a safe learning environment. The following procedures are set to help move toward the mission statement. These rules are in place to help students become a proud and confident member of the CUHS student body. Entering the class: Please be in the room and in your seat before the tardy bell rings. When at your desk quietly pull out the materials and assignments you will need for that period. Tardy Policy: Students who enter class after the bell will receive a tardy. The first tardy will serve as a warning. Upon the second tardy, the student will need to serve detention during the ISP period that day. If the student serves three tardies in a semester (6 tardies total) there will be a conference arranged to discuss options with your parents. Class Dismissal: I dismiss class, not the bell. There may be days when we need a few seconds to complete our work. If you are done before the bell rings, please remain in your seat until the bell rings. When Absent: It is your responsibility to ask all of your teachers for make-up work. Find out how much time you have to complete the assignments and turn them in so you do not lose credit. Iwould be happy to help you organize this process. Leaving the room: Once you are in class, plan to stay. There is plenty of time during your passing periods to do what you need. Exceptions to this rule are at the teacher’s discretion. Substitutes: When I have a sub in my room they are the adult in charge and any rules set forth by the sub are the rules you follow. If there is an issue while a sub is in charge, I will investigate the situation. Consequences will be enforced if the student is found to be at fault. Courtesy: At the high school level it is important to start practicing the skills needed in the work force. You will be treated with respect in my room. I do not tolerate name calling (nicknames or other derogatory names). If you are one to call names, it is best to not do so in here. Homework and Extra-credit policy: There are some assignments that are accepted late and others that are not. The ability to turn in late work and the points awarded to those assignments will be discussed with each class. I do offer EXTRA CREDIT assignments throughout the year. These are not to be mistaken for INSTEAD OF CREDITS that will replace an assignment that was not turned in. Parent contact policy: By the nature of the RSP classes, parents are contacted annually for their student’s IEP. Parents are also welcome to arrange a meeting at any time during the year, if they see fit to do so. I will also be initiating contact with parents throughout the year for reasons other than IEP issues. Parents will be notified if there is a situation that needs attention in the academic performance or behavior of a student. Parents will be notified for positive and negative reasons. Make-up assignment: Students will be able to make up work for excused absences. The student will have as many days as they were absent to make up the assignment. (Absent one day- student gets one day to make up an assignment). EXCEPTION: If the class has been working on a long-term project (over a week) and a student is absent the day of the test or presentation, the student needs to give prior notice to the teacher. Tests and presentations are not a good reason to become ill. Grading Policy: Grading policy will be given to each student the first week of class. Most classes are a straight percentage class, meaning all points are equal. Study skills class is divided into 5 areas worth 20% each. These areas are clearly stated in the Study Skills 12 syllabus. Final grades will allow for considerations made for state wide test results. |
