Principal, Charlie Troughton
Every year I encourage the incoming freshmen classes to be respectful, get involved, and work hard. These are fundamental values that students, teachers, parents and staff can all agree upon in our efforts to make Corning High School a great school. I constantly ask myself, “Are we doing what’s best for students?” That which is best for them may not be convenient for us as adults. What is best for students at our school is not always what students think they need. I want to keep focusing on what promotes student learning. Teachers are one of the daily, direct, determining influences upon student achievement and behavior.
Of course, parents, your support of our efforts to promote student learning every day is the glue that holds it all together. One of my most significant roles as a principal is to ensure that our teachers become the best that they can be for the sake of your student’s learning.
One of my fundamental goals around here is to communicate, be consistent and be visible in every aspect of my responsibilities. I am dedicated to this school, and even my brother (who does not live here) claims that I bleed Cardinal red. We have a community of teachers and support staff committed to running a great school. As some of you may know, U.S. News and World Report recently honored Corning High School with the bronze award placing us in the top 300 high schools in America. The last two student body presidents at Chico State were Corning High School graduates. Working together we can accomplish great things. If we are not doing what we should be doing, then I want to know about it. Come see me if you have concerns and thank you parents for entrusting your students to us.
